AAEP: American Association of Equine Practitioners
The AAEP is the largest group of equine practitioners in the world. Today, the AAEP, headquartered in Lexington, Kentucky, serves as a non-profit organization of over 6600 members. AAEP reaches more than 5.1 million horse owners through its worldwide membership and involvement in ethics issues, practice management, research and continuing education in the equine veterinary profession and horse industry.
AVMA: American Veterinary Medical Association
The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), established in 1863, is a not-for-profit association representing more than 67,000 veterinarians working in private and corporate practice, government, industry, academia, and uniformed services. Structured to work for its members, the AVMA acts as a collective voice for its membership and for the profession. The Association is the authorized voice for the profession in presenting its views to government, academia, agriculture, pet owners, the media, and other concerned publics.
CVMA: Canadian Veterinary Medical Association
The CVMA is the national body representing and serving the interests of the veterinary profession in Canada. The Association is committed to excellence within the profession and to the well-being of animals. It shall promote public awareness of the contribution of animals and veterinarians to society
CVO: College of Veterinarians of Ontario
The College of Veterinarians of Ontario (CVO) regulates the practice of veterinary medicine in Ontario to protect the public interest. The CVO is not a school or university and is financed in full by the licence fees of veterinarians in Ontario.

OVC: Ontario Veterinary College

Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals
Ontario SPCA works in co-operation with our local member humane societies across the province to help animals in need, including homeless cats, dogs and other companion animals, injured wildlife and all animals subjected to cruelty or neglect. The Ontario SPCA is the umbrella organization for all recognized humane societies in Ontario and the ONLY animal welfare organization in the province authorized by provincial statute to protect animals.

The LongRun Thoroughbred Retirement Society
Our aim is to offer an alternative to owners and trainers to continue racing horses that are no longer able to compete by finding these racehorses' adoptive homes and perhaps an alternative career as riding horses or as companions. We aim to educate the Ontario thoroughbred racing community, as well as the public, about these alternatives for retired racehorses through our work.

The Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation
The TRF is a good site that lists equine adoption, retirement, rescue and rehabilitation services alphabetically by state. The RARP provides racehorse adoption/retirement information to people throughout the United States and Canada. The program’s mission is to find good homes for Thoroughbreds when their days at the track have ended. The RARP is not always directly involved with the adoption/retirement process – its primary role is to generate awareness about contact points for all potential adopters and donors.
